The
Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international association of
catholic laymen and women engaging in a regular organized, systematic
commitment of personal service of and for the poor.
How
the Society Works!
Situations requiring assistance are referred to the conference (via
the parish office). In teams of two, Vincentians make personal visits
to assess particular needs and take steps to alleviate physical
needs (food, clothing or housing) and to mitigate other human needs.
It is not their intent or purpose to assume the roles of social
workers, welfare officials or psychiatrists, nor to suddenly shatter
the poverty syndrome. Their objectives are simple and realistic:
to supply food and clothing, to encourage the weary, to give moral
support to the confused, to bring warmth into the often sterile
world of the elderly.
A
conference (group) of St. Vincent de Paul operates within a parish
- and we are fortunate to have an active conference here at St.
Pius. They meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at
7:30 PM in the St. Vincent de Paul Room. A pamphlet with more information
about the Society is located in the racks at the entrances. Also
available are envelopes for use if you wish to make a donation to
them. They are a Registered Charity in their own right and receipts
for income tax purposes are issued by the Society.
