The
Sacramental Preparation programs at St. Pius are for all children
belonging to St. Pius X Parish. Registration, Preparation and Celebration
for these programs take place at the parish.
The Celebration of these Sacraments DOES NOT take place in the schools.
The Calgary Catholic Schools assist greatly in providing a bonus
preparation for these Sacraments; however, what they do is to assist
the child and family for a preparation and celebration which takes
place in each child's home parish.
Because Baptism is required before all the other sacraments, parents
are asked to bring the child's Baptism Certificates at the time
of registration for these sacraments.
Our
parish sacramental preparation programs prepare the child for a
particular sacrament. This preparation involves both parents and
children in activities designed to explore in greater depth the
meaning, symbols, and rituals of the sacrament at a level suited
to those preparing.
The
family
As it says in the Baptism ceremony, "the parents are the first
teachers of their child in the ways of Faith," for example by sharing
their own experience of sacraments. The family becomes more aware
of the meaning of a particular sacrament and shares this appreciation
with the child. Families prepare for the actual celebration of the
sacrament by making a banner and involving other family members
in the celebration.
The
parish community
Provides support through its active participation in worship. The
parish provides support by publicly recognising those preparing
for the sacrament and by praying for them.
The
school
includes in its curriculum a basic and gradually developed teaching
of the sacraments. It also teaches the initial skills for sacramental
celebration, including familiarity with songs, responses and prayers.

Gathering time for ALL sessions is 6:45 - 7:00 PM with sessions
beginning promptly at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening
